'Central Rd, Arbutus, Hornby Island'
40"x30" oil on canvas

"On my first trip to Hornby as a kid in 1964 I remember an adventurous trip to the Island.  One of my early memories was the flash of color as we drove to Whaling Station Bay where my parents parked their trailer for the summer.  Of course the bright reds and yellows were the Arbutus on Central Road, which is the subject of my Artist Trek painting.  The downside of summers on Hornby as a kid was the Coop always ran out of ice cream and popsicles!  However the salmon fishing was amazing.
As a landscape painting I am always attracted to color in an otherwise green environment on the coast.  Arbutus offer the possibility of a full spectrum of hot colors which in turn contrast to the cold colors of the glaciers and snow on Vancouver Island as seen from my favorite location on Central Road."
