ELSPETH ARMSTRONG

:Olsen's Farm - The view from Ford's Cove hill, that overlooks Olsen's farm, encompassing Georgia Strait, Chrome Island, the southern tip of Denman Island and Vancouver Island has to be one of the most spectacular panoramic scenes on Hornby Island, and probably one of the most photographed.  It has everything a landscape artist could hope for - depth, colour, variety of shapes and atmosphere"

Elspeth is a graduate of the Famous Artists Schools, Westport, CT, 3-year Commercial Art, Illustration and Design course, and she practiced commercial work for a few years.  However, consulting and public facilitation along with public involvement took precedence for some twenty years.  Eight years ago, she returned to her first love, painting.  Living in several provinces in cities and mining towns and now the west coast has given Elspeth a wonderful opportunity to experience the wide range of topography and beauty that Canada has to offer.  Canadian wilderness, especially BC's rugged coast and islands, has added a powerful dimension to her work.

To quote a fellow artist, "Elspeth continues her focus in acrylic landscapes, variety of colour and depth, with that rolling of her brush so languidly lavished upon canvas.  Fields of colour, deep blue waters, thick lush forests that lure you into something that feels familiar...the comfort of nature.

Elspeth currently is represented by art consultant, Denise Bezanson, False Creek Art Consulting; Arbutus Arts Gallery and Island Gallery, Hornby Island, BC; Gallery 223, Nanaimo, BC; and Koyman Galleries, Ottawa, ON.  She has had numerous group and solo shows throughout the last eight years on Hornby Island, and in Vancouver, Tsawwassen, Ladner and Squamish.  Her paintings can be found in corporate offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and privately in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, the US and South Africa.
Elspeth is married with 3 grown children, all involved in the arts, a fabric artist, a professional landscape artist, and a photographer.  And 5 grandchildren as well.  Elspeth and her husband, Chris, recently moved to Hornby Island as full-time residents.
